Abstract
Purpose : This study is to identify the status of optometry-related occupations for objective refraction, to survey the awareness of the domestic optometrist and to provide basic data for expanding the scope of work in the future.

Methods : We collected and analyzed data on the objective refraction of overseas and domestic optometry-related occupations and surveyed a total of 1,989 optometrists to investigate the awareness.

Results : An objective refraction is the basis of performance for optometry-related jobs, and almost all countries except Korea allow the use of objective refraction testing devices other than auto-refractometer. It was confirmed that the classification of medical device for the objective refraction testing devices used in the optometry related occupations was divided as low or no risk in almost all countries. Domestic optometrists¡¯ awareness of the use of objective refraction testing devices was independent of age, academic background, and career. Most thought it should be possible to do, and it was confirmed that they were willing to use it if legally allowed.

Conclusion : In order to prepare for the clear feasibility of domestic optometrists¡¯ use for objective refraction testing, the optometrists themselves must develop clinical practice skills that are not lacking compared to overseas optometrist, and self-help efforts to secure effective strategies are necessary.
